Ilaria Ortensi

Bio: Ilaria Ortensi was born in Rome in 1982 and completed her BA in Cinema Studies there. She is a visual artist who mainly works with photography and sculpture. Her work has been exhibited in group shows throughout the US, London, Berlin, and Italy. She currently lives in New York.

Lightness

What role does photography play in your work?

In my artistic practice I use photography and sculpture dialectically to create works of art with an open structure. While photography does claim a central role in my work, I constantly question its definition and status as a medium.
